Signs in Silicon: Three Technological Shifts with Prophetic Echoes

What today’s emerging technologies might be pointing toward

In the rapid churn of innovation, few pause to ask where it’s all leading. Yet a closer look at our world today—at AI (such as ChatGPT), digital finance (crypto, etc.), and efforts to transcend biology (transhumanism)—reveals patterns that seem oddly familiar to students of prophecy. Could these advances be laying the groundwork for the very systems the Bible warns will rise in the final days?

Below are three significant technological trends that may align with biblical prophecy, reminding us how close we may be to what the Bible describes as the “time of Jacob’s trouble.”

1. A System No One Can Opt Out Of: The Rise of Digital Currencies

Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) are no longer theoretical. America’s skyrocketing national debt, for one, needs an urgent solution. Stablecoins and especially CBDCs are the best solution. There is a clear drive towards a cashless society. Many people already do not use cash anymore. With card payments and EFT, this has become obsolete. CBDCs take this one step further.

Around the globe, nations are actively experimenting with or preparing to launch programmable digital currencies. This isn’t simply about moving cash online—it’s about centralised control. Unlike decentralised cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, CBDCs are government-issued and can be tightly monitored and manipulated.

Unlike traditional money, CBDCs can be programmed. That means a government could impose restrictions on what people can buy, when they can spend, and even if their funds can be used at all. The U.S., while publicly hesitant, is working on stablecoin frameworks that, under legal obligation, must allow authorities to “seize, freeze, or burn” currency—essentially flipping a switch on someone’s financial access.

This aligns eerily well with the biblical description of a future economic system that will dominate the globe during the Tribulation period:

“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

— Revelation 13:16–17, KJV

Digital currencies and their necessary siblings—digital ID systems and tokenised assets—are forming the infrastructure for such a system right now. While we may not be in the Tribulation yet, we’re certainly witnessing the assembly of its economic framework.

2. The Post-Human Horizon: A World Where “No Flesh Shall Be Saved”

The words of Jesus in Matthew 24 take on new resonance in our era of transhumanism and AI:

“And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”
— Matthew 24:22, KJV

Some have traditionally interpreted this to mean global destruction via war, especially nuclear. But with the rise of synthetic biology, brain-machine interfaces, and the dream of digital immortality, perhaps we’re looking at a more literal interpretation. The Greek word for “flesh” in that verse is sarx, referring to physical human tissue—not merely “people” as modern translations suggest.

As scientists and futurists openly talk about shedding the limits of the human body in favour of machine integration or “uploading consciousness,” one wonders whether we’re heading toward a future in which humanity, as defined by flesh and blood, is no longer the norm.

This aligns with the biblical expectation of a final rebellion against God:

“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.”
— Psalm 2:2–4, KJV

Is mankind attempting once again to “be as gods,” as in the days of Babel? Some prosperity preachers have been teaching this for years. But outside the church, this is becoming very real; in fact, it may become the very vehicle of the final rebellion. Could this be the reason- man linked via microchips to AI- why those who take the mark of the Beast (after the Rapture) cannot repent?

3. The Age of Unmatched Power: A World Ripe for Global Rule

Military technology is evolving at an astonishing pace. Artificial intelligence now manages battlefield decisions. Autonomous drone swarms may soon be capable of overwhelming any traditional defence. In the Ukraine/ Russian War, for example, we already see their application.
Experts say that once these swarms can track underwater nuclear assets, the decades-long balance of “mutually assured destruction” (MAD) will collapse.

At that point, the nation with the most advanced drone network and manufacturing capability could become the dominant global power—or create a worldwide empire to prevent mutual annihilation.

This isn’t just geopolitical speculation. Scripture speaks clearly of a final global power, different from all before it:

“Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.”
— Daniel 7:23, KJV

And again in Revelation:
“And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.”
— Revelation 13:7, KJV

The technologies being developed today could make such total control not only possible, but logical—under the guise of “global peace” and “order.”

Where It All Points to

In a world moving at breakneck speed toward digital control, post-human aspirations, and autonomous war machines, it’s hard to ignore Biblical prophecies as having abstract meanings. We’re not just looking at isolated trends—we’re witnessing a convergence. Everything is happening at the same time, everything is coming together.
The Bible has long described the signs of the end times, and many of them are now visible:

• Israel back in the land (May 1948) (Ezekiel 39:28)
• Jerusalem under Jewish control (Luke 21:24)
• Knowledge increasing (think Internet, Google, AI) (Daniel 12:4)
• The rise of a global governance model (Revelation 13:7)
• The spiritual condition of mankind (2 Timothy 3:1–4)
• A great falling away from truth and from God (think fake news, churches focusing on entertainment rather than Scripture etc.) (2 Thes 2:3)

And perhaps most tellingly, the emergence of tools that could enable total economic, political, and even biological control over humanity.

Jesus gave us a warning and a hope:
“So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.”
— Matthew 24:33, KJV

“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
— Luke 21:28, KJV

Bottom Line

Technology is not evil in itself, but its rapid progression is mirroring the systems prophesied in Scripture. Whether we are witnessing the precursors to the Tribulation system of control, or the early stages of the very systems that will define it, one thing is clear: the stage is being set.
